Are Your Kids Tuning In or Tuning Out?

Lately, we've been reading up on how technology (computers, cell phones, videos games, social media, text messaging, etc) is affecting kids and their ability to focus on school work. It's worrisome to read how grade point averages are going down, attention deficit is going up, and the pressure to be in-the-know is at an all-time high for 'tweens and teens.

What we found particularly interesting were the opposing quotes from parents. Some said their kids need to consume 4-8 hours of digital life a day because it will help them in the long term. Their feeling was, those who stay on top of digital trends and media are the ones who succeed in the world. Nanny Time
Nanny Time

I was in Bayville, New Jersey recently working with a family (see picture). Between shooting, I was able to visit the La Cima charter school in Brooklyn, NY, to help raise awareness among children about exercise-induced Bronchospasm (exercise-induced asthma). I talked with the kids about the symptoms, signs, and discomfort that those with Bronchospasm experience. For kids who have this condition, it is vital that they always remember to carry their inhaler with them and use it when needed. I've been teaming up with EIB Active to help raise awareness. As someone who suffers from asthma, this is a cause near and dear to me. I want to see everyone healthy, happy and able to live active lifestyles.

I hope everyone in the U.S. has a Happy Thanksgiving! Remember to take a moment to go around the Thanksgiving table and have everyone share what they are thankful for in someone else. x Jo
